Turf for a drought-stage city

San Antonio has spent most of the last several years under watering restrictions, and a turf lawn takes those off your list. As of October 2026, SAWS is in Stage 3, which allows landscape watering once a week on your assigned day, during set morning and evening hours. The stage is set by the Edwards Aquifer level at the J-17 well, and the Edwards Aquifer Authority also has the San Antonio Pool under Stage 3 pumping cuts. Synthetic turf needs no irrigation, so it stays the same color through every stage.

Texas also limits how HOAs can treat lawns during restrictions. HB 517, in effect since September 1, 2025, limits HOA fines for discolored grass during a watering restriction. Texas law doesn’t specifically address artificial turf, though. Property Code § 202.007 protects drought-resistant landscaping and water-conserving natural turf. If you’re in an HOA, plan on submitting your turf plan for approval. We provide spec sheets and samples for the application.

Built for Texas heat and clay

San Antonio averages a high of 96°F in August, with about 122 days a year at 90°F or above and nearly 18 at 100°F or above (NOAA 1991–2020 normals). Our fibers are UV-stabilized and built for heat stability, so blades keep their color and shape through the summer.

The ground matters as much as the weather. Much of central Bexar County sits on Houston Black clay. It drains very slowly, swells when wet and cracks when dry. North of the city, soils thin out over limestone. We build a compacted crushed-rock base on every job so the turf stays flat when the clay underneath moves, and so water has somewhere to go.

Fewer lawn problems

St. Augustine is the most common San Antonio lawn grass, and Texas A&M AgriLife names chinch bugs as one of its two most serious insect pests. Their damage looks like drought stress and shows up first in hot, sunny spots along driveways and sidewalks. Turf has no pests to treat, no brown patches to reseed and nothing to mow.
