Two water systems in one city
The first thing to check in Leon Valley is who sends your water bill. About two-thirds of homes and businesses are on the city’s own Leon Valley Water System, and the rest are SAWS customers. In 2024 the city council changed its ordinance to line its watering hours up with SAWS, so the two groups now follow nearly the same schedule. The council also added a fifth drought stage and a surcharge for heavy users in Stages 3, 4 and 5.
In early October 2026 the city listed Stage 3. Sprinklers and irrigation systems can run only every other week on your address day, during the morning and late-evening windows. Drip irrigation is allowed on Mondays and Fridays, and a hand-held hose any time.
Why pet turf comes up so often here
A dog run is the hardest piece of lawn to keep alive on a watering schedule like that. Dogs wear paths along fences and dig in the bare spots that follow, and urine burns grass that’s already short on water. Texas A&M AgriLife notes that St. Augustinegrass, the common shade lawn here, tolerates drought only to some degree.
Premier Pet Flow 55 is built for that use. It’s a shorter, resilient blade on a flow-through backing, laid over a compacted base that drains. Because hand-held hoses are allowed any time, you can rinse the run whenever it needs it without waiting for your watering day.
An established suburb
Leon Valley incorporated in 1952 to avoid being annexed by San Antonio. It sits near Loop 410 and State Highway 16, about ten miles northwest of downtown, and grew from 536 residents in 1960 to 11,542 in 2020. The city’s best-known landmark is the Huebner-Onion Homestead, where Joseph Huebner bought land in 1858 and built a home that also served as a stagecoach stop.
In an established yard, a turf project usually means replacing something: a worn backyard, a dog side yard, or a strip along the driveway that never stays green. We remove the old grass and roots, build and compact the base, and then lay and seam the turf.
