NBU sets the rules here
New Braunfels homes on city water follow New Braunfels Utilities, not SAWS. NBU moved to Conservation Stage 2 on August 10, 2026. That limits sprinklers to one day a week by address, before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Hand-held hoses, drip and soaker hoses can run any day in those hours. Foundations can be watered up to two hours a day with a hose or drip line within 24 inches of the slab.
Turf takes a lawn off the once-a-week schedule, which leaves your watering time for foundation soaking, beds and trees.
A city that watches its springs
New Braunfels pays close attention to Comal Springs. The springs rise at the base of a limestone bluff in Landa Park and are described as the largest in Texas. They’re fed by the Edwards Aquifer, and NBU uses spring flow as one of its drought triggers: Stage 2 applies when the aquifer drops to 650 feet above sea level or Comal Springs falls to 200 cubic feet per second. The town was built around that water. Nicolaus Zink led German immigrants up the Guadalupe in March 1845, and the springs powered the early mills. The city sits where the Comal and Guadalupe rivers meet.
Rebates: ask first
NBU has a Grass Removal rebate worth up to $2,000 for taking out high-water-use turfgrass. The rebate page doesn’t say whether synthetic turf is an acceptable replacement, and we won’t guess. If you want to apply, read NBU’s guidelines and find out whether it needs to see the lawn before we remove any grass. We’ll give you the measurements and a written quote for your application.
Pool yards and outdoor rooms
Pool yards are where turf earns its keep. Grass along a pool edge gets soaked by splash water, worn by bare feet and littered with clippings that end up in the skimmer. Turf drains straight through its backing and stays put. Our project photo here shows a lit game area set into turf beside a pool. For pool decks we lean toward:
- Malibu Flow 65, which needs no infill, so nothing washes into the water.
- Tropical Flow 62, a W-blade built to run cooler in full sun.
Growth and scheduling
New Braunfels grew from 57,740 residents in 2010 to 98,857 in 2021. Our crew comes up from San Antonio, about 41 minutes away without traffic, for both the estimate and the install. Ask about install dates when you book the estimate, and send photos of the yard ahead of time so we bring the right samples.
