Turf for four real seasons
St. Louis asks a lawn to handle everything. The metro averages about 47 days a year at 90°F or above, about 85 nights at or below freezing, and 16.6 inches of snow (NOAA 1991–2020 normals). Grass has to survive all of it. Turf looks the same in August as it does in February.
Why St. Louis lawns struggle
The two grasses that do best here each have a weak season. The Missouri Botanical Garden recommends turf-type tall fescue or zoysia, but notes that tall fescue can struggle in hot, humid weather and zoysia stays tan from early fall through late spring. University of Missouri Extension says a summer lawn may need 1 to 1.5 inches of water a week to stay green. Turf needs no watering, mowing or reseeding, and it stays green under shade trees where grass thins out.
Built on Missouri soil
Much of the area sits on deep, silty loess soils along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers (USDA Menfro series), and MU Extension notes most Missouri soils absorb only about half an inch of water per hour. Spring is the wettest time of year here, with April and May the wettest months. Those soils and that rain are why we put so much into the base. We excavate, then grade and compact a crushed-rock drainage layer, so rain and snowmelt pass through the turf and away from the surface instead of sitting on it. Flow-series turf drains over 400 inches per hour through its permeable backing.
Freeze-thaw and snow
Turf doesn’t go dormant, so there’s no brown season to wait out. In winter, keep heavy snow and ice from piling up and compacting the fibers. In spring, a full brush-through and a light rinse stand the blades back up.

Built for the Midwest
Turf for four seasons
St. Louis lawns go through hot, humid summers, freeze-thaw winters and shaded yards where grass struggles. Turf stays green through all of it.
Green all year
Synthetic turf keeps its color through winter dormancy and summer heat, with no reseeding or fertilizer.
Drains after storms and snowmelt
Flow-series turf drains over 400 inches per hour, so spring rain and melting snow move through instead of pooling.
Grows where grass won’t
Shaded yards, dog runs and high-traffic areas stay full and even.
