How we build lawns & yards projects
A lawn that doesn’t depend on your watering day
A turf lawn stays the same color whatever stage SAWS is in. As of October 2026, SAWS shows Stage 3 rules in effect: sprinklers and soaker hoses get one day a week, set by the last digit of your address, between 5 and 10 a.m. or 9 p.m. and midnight. San Antonio averages about 122 days a year at 90°F or above (NOAA 1991–2020 normals), so a grass lawn has to get through most of the summer on that one weekly watering.
Turf also takes care of St. Augustine’s other problems. Texas A&M AgriLife names chinch bugs and white grubs as its two most serious insect pests. A turf lawn has nothing for them to eat, and nothing to mow, edge or fertilize.
Built for Bexar County ground
The base matters more than the turf. The Alamo Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists says most of Bexar County sits on thick clay, mainly Houston Black, which swells when wet and shrinks when dry. In the far north, around Stone Oak and Helotes, soils are shallow over limestone.
On every lawn we dig out 3 to 4 inches of grass and topsoil, check the grade so water runs away from the house, and build a compacted crushed-rock base in layers. On clay, that keeps the surface flat as the ground moves. On rock, we break out high spots so the grade comes out even.
HOA approval
In Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, Castle Hills or any HOA neighborhood, plan to get approval first. Texas Property Code § 202.007 protects drought-resistant landscaping and water-conserving natural turf, but it doesn’t mention artificial turf, so your association’s rules decide. We give you a spec sheet, samples and a site plan for the submittal.
Which turf for your yard
For the main lawn, most San Antonio homeowners pick Luxe Flow 75 or Bermuda for a natural look from the street. Tropical Flow 62 handles sunny backyards with kids and guests. All carry a 16-year warranty, and all are Made in U.S.A. and lead & PFAS free.

Questions
Before you get a quote
What are the San Antonio watering rules right now?
As of October 2026, SAWS shows Stage 3 rules in effect: sprinklers and soaker hoses run once a week on your address day, 5–10 a.m. and 9 p.m.–midnight. Hand-held hoses are allowed any time. A turf lawn needs none of it.
Can my HOA stop me from installing artificial grass?
Possibly. Texas Property Code § 202.007 protects drought-resistant landscaping and water-conserving natural turf, but it does not mention artificial turf, so your HOA's rules decide. We give you a spec sheet, samples and a site plan for the approval request.
Can my HOA fine me for a brown lawn during restrictions?
Texas HB 517, in effect since September 1, 2025, limits an association's authority to fine owners for discolored grass or plants during residential watering restrictions. Check your association's current rules for how it applies.
Will the turf shift on clay soil?
Not if the base is right. We excavate the grass and topsoil and build a compacted crushed-rock base, so the turf stays flat when the clay underneath swells and shrinks.
How do I get a price?
Call (210) 954-1803 or request a quote. We measure the yard on site and give you a written price for the base and turf.
