Turf for established Rockledge yards
Rockledge yards tend to be older and more planted than new subdivisions, so the job is fitting turf around what’s already there. Founded in 1887 and named for the coquina rock ledges along the Indian River, Rockledge is Brevard’s oldest incorporated city. Most homes sit between US 1 and I-95, with river properties along Rockledge Drive.
That usually means mature trees, beds and older irrigation. A good Rockledge install turfs the open, sunny areas where grass is failing and leaves the tree zones alone.
Working around trees
Under Florida’s turf rule (DEP Rule 62-308.100), turf can’t go inside a tree’s drip line unless a certified arborist certifies it won’t harm the tree. Noxious-weed trees are the exception. We mark drip lines during the estimate and plan clean edges around them, typically with mulch or a border, so the finished yard still looks deliberate.
Irrigation and septic
Existing sprinklers have to come off turf areas. The state rule says in-ground irrigation can’t be used to water synthetic turf, and a local government may require heads in turf areas to be removed and capped. We note which zones need to be capped during the site visit.
Rockledge is also one of the Brevard cities speeding up septic-to-sewer conversions. If your home is still on septic, the rule requires the tank to stay accessible for pump-outs, so we lay out around the lid.
Close to the lagoon
Rockledge protects the river with one of the stricter fertilizer setups in the county. Like all of Brevard, it bans nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer from June 1 to September 30. Rockledge also keeps a fertilizer-free zone east of Rockledge Drive. A turf lawn needs no fertilizer, so those rules stop being a lawn-care problem for river properties. Turf also has to stay at least 10 feet from the water unless a seawall separates them.
Water
Rockledge gets its water from the City of Cocoa utility, and the St. Johns River Water Management District sets watering days. Your turf won’t need any of them, but beds and trees still will.
